In the meantime, I am working at a textbook publishing firm. I spend my days working out problems, checking solutions and crafting guided solution processes for middle school math texts. The work is satisfying and, dare I say it, fun. I didn't think I would like it as much as I do. You see, this has been an extreme change for me, as I came from a long term substitute position at a middle school. I was used to a lot of movement and noise in my day. Coming to the quiet (so very quiet) world of publishing was a bit of a shocker. If it was quiet at the middle school, I got suspicious! But, I am getting used to it.
I am also mom to 2 bright and beautiful girls, wife to one sweet and generous man, and caretaker of far too many furry and finned beings.
Sounds like you will be a great teacher Tracey! Math is a very important subject to teach and I commend you for it! My girlfriend is actually substitute teaching and she aspires to become a Fine Arts teacher of some kind. "Furry and finned beings"?! Lol, well put. I have an adorable Basset hound named Larry. Good luck with this course and with becoming a teacher!
ReplyDeleteHi Tracey,
ReplyDeleteAs a fellow math junky, I think your goals are great! I am planning on getting my multi-subject credentials for education and then testing into single subject for math. In the state of California they have a requirement that all HS Seniors pass an exit exam requiring Algebra. I knew so many people in HS that could never have passed it that I thought I could get involved using all my weird little algebra tricks I have acquired over the years. I like working with kids too and volunteer at my son's school every chance I get. We just did owl pellets and it was a blast with literal fur flying all over the place :)
